 Kate and Vanessa met in 1989 when they shared an apartment together in college. Like Laverne and Shirley, Kate and Vanessa shared an immediate kismet. Kate's fashion savvy and creative sensibility was the yin. Vanessa's entrepreneurial spirit and penchant for practicality the yang. Together, they became best friends and "those girls from apartment 32 with all the ideas." Kate went on to graduate from Parsons School of Design and spent the next ten years as a NYC fashion designer for major labels including Abercrombie & Fitch, Calvin Klein and J. Crew. Vanessa channeled her strategic smarts into a marketing career where she managed high-profile events at Sundance and Cannes film festivals, as well as for W magazine, working with fashion clients including Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, and Bottega Veneta. Still best friends and seeing a need for accessories that marry fashion and function, Kate and Vanessa put their ideas into action and launched girl 32 in 2003. |
